A bit under.......

Sorry I did not get this posted originally on
Wednesday, March 18th.
Figured late was better than never.

.....the weather and it is so gorgeous outside. I can't believe that for the past 6 days I have felt lousy and haven't been able to enjoy the past few days that have been beautiful. At least that is what I see from my window. Beautiful bright sunshine, green grass, and even my irises starting to grow.

I couldn't even get out yesterday and wear my St. Paddy's Day jewelry that I recently won or purchased, like these earrings that I bought from Kristie's Kreations on etsy.

Or wear this wonderful jade and miracle bead necklace that I won from XO Jewelry Designs.

Before Winners are announced a bit of update

Yesterday I went to the hand orthopedic as my rhuematologist (not srue how to spell that) wanted me to see a hand doctor as she noticed my thumbs no longer laid out straight when holding your hands out straight, they dropped and it hurt something awful (I know I came off the chair) when she tried to put them back in place. I've been haing a lot of pain in both hands for several years, and always told my family doctor. He told me there was nothing that could be done, it was arthritis.

Anyhow, yesterday was my appointment, and they first took x-rays of both hands. And later took me to the exam room. When the doc came in after viewing my x-rays he first said.... "I know exactly what your problem is, by looking at the x-rays" Oh goody.. now tell me and tell me if anything can be done.

He said as a last resort surgery could be performed but due to my RSD and Lupus and the fact that I had a stress heart attack a year ago when my hip was replaced.... they are weary of doing surgery.

He said due to the meds that I already take for pain, there is nothing he can prescribe and that I take pain meds that he isn't even allowed to prescribe. So yesterday they shot both thumb joints with steroids...and that hurt like the dickens but only for a few moments (but I never want to do that again, if at all possible) and put both hands in braces (I took one off to type this and answer a few e-mails). In 5 weeks when I go back we;ll go from there. So only time will tell if the steroids and braces will help. But it will definitely hinder my crafting, that is for sure. Something I am not looking forward to. Especially since I started making myself a multi-pocketed up-cycled (from an old bomber jacket) leather purse Thursday evening. Now it will have to be put on hold for a bit.

But on to the winners ...

Day 23: Valerie

Day 24: Giveaway Diva

Day 25: carebear

Day 26: Robin

Day 27: Tinkets

Thank you all for being a part of my challenge, the 29 - Day Giving Challenge, I so much appreicate it. Thanks for the botton of my heart,

My Crocheted Candy Dish

I decided to make myself a candy dish that was un-breakable, non-scratching (to furniture), washable, and pretty to look at. I love it! I currently have some miniature candy bars in it and it has been working perfectly. I love the colors, and I love to handle it as it is soft, yet strong.

Baby Animal Nest

If you have been following my blog, you might have read my past two posts (here and here), about the animal nest that I have been making for rescued baby animals.

These are more nest that have been shipped out for use.

I have made over 4o of these so far in various sizes just using scrap yarn. I have heard that they are in use and I am still waiting for pictures, so that I can show them to you all.

I have one more batch to ship out, I just hope it's not too late and that they can still put them to use this year. But if not, they can hold on to them until they need them.

With Summer getting near and the weather warming up, I will be glad to put the yarn away for a while and let my poor hands have a rest.
But should the rescue agencies need any more of these nest, I hope that they will contact me as it would be my pleasure to make more for them.

Thank You Card

This is a 'Thank You' card that I received from one of the rescue agencies that received some of the baby animal nest that I have been making. I love the card... it is so adorable with the little puppy walking out of the shopping bag. The only thing that would make this card better, is ........... if it wasn't blue. I so dislike the color blue. Not sure why, have for as long as I can remember.

Annie Quilt Giveaway

Check out this awesome and very adorable quilt giveaway over at MY LITTLE ANNIES it is a wonderful chance to win a great prize.

Auction For A Very Good Cause, Let's Help

Sue Farace of Crafter's Cafe is working on her 2nd Annual Craft Challenge which is currently on the 13th day. March is National Craft Month, and Sue has challenged herself to create one piece of art every day this month. Each item that Sue creates will go up for auction, as well as other pieces of art that have been donated. There is a variety of artwork for you to choose from. Many one-of-a-kinds, and all unique and beautiful.

The monies raised from the auction will be donated to The Family Crisis Center of Baltimore County (FCC). And each day a new item will be placed up for bidding. Bidding is easy too, all you have to do is leave a comment on the item or items of your choosing with the amount you would like to bid. That's it! Very simple and very easy. But please do not bid if you are not going to follow through and pay, if you are the winning bidder. This money will go to a very good cause.

About the Family Crisis Center

The Family Crisis Center of Baltimore County (FCC) is a non profit organization, founded 30 years ago, whose mission is to provide high quality services to those experiencing family conflict and domestic violence.

Services offered are:

  • Baltimore County's only safe shelter (which includes our children's program)
  • Transitional Housing
  • Individual and Family Psychotherapy
  • Free legal services to victims
  • Advocacy services (which includes victim support groups, courtroom accompaniment, safety planning, and crisis counseling)
  • New Behaviors Groups (includes Healthy Relationship Programs and Anger Management)
  • 24 Hour Crisis Hotline

See what is happening at the FCC Blog

So, go take a moment and visit the blog and take a look around. Maybe you will find some inspiration to create some art yourself this month ....it is National Craft Month after all. Or maybe you will find something you would love to bid on (by all means, please do), or you might even find a piece of art that would make the perfect gift for a friend or family member.

Take a break for just a moment (who can't use a break from time to time) out of your busy day and have a look around.

This is short, as I'm not feeling well but wanted to get my last day of giving posted. I will talk more tomorrow (if I am feeling better) about the 29 - Day Giving Challenge.

I can say that this WILL NOT be the last of my giving or give-a-ways.

Mom is near to my heart...

update: Lynn was kind enough to send me a picture of the pendent she made for me. It is called the memento mini... its like a picture in a little bubble. Thanks so much Lynn!

Because I recently won an absolutely beautiful pendant from Lynn Krestel and have it on a 24" chain. Lynn placed a pearl on my pendant instead of the crystal. Lynn has an etsy shop where you can view more of her beautiful sterling silver creations. I am a member of the American Craft Guide Community and they were having a Valentine's Day give-a-way. And that is where and how I won this wonderful pendent.

I knew that I would not be able to get a picture of my own pendant and do it justice so I captured one of Lynn's from her etsy shop to show you. The picture below is of my Mother and that is what is inside of my pendent. I don't know how Lynn gets them in there, but it looks so kwel to have the picture floating in the center. It's like magic!

I see that she is offering classes to teach her method of creating these pendants. If interested you might want top check it out. And if you stop by Lynn's blog, let her know that I sent you her way. Thanks!

My Mother is so beautiful in this picture and it is my favorite of her. I miss her so much. She passed away on her 77th birthday in September 2008. She looks like a movie star to me. And she was and always will be my star!

Anyhow, leave a message on this post to be entered to win.

And since Conner is here, I will have him pick numbers for the Day 11-Day 18 give-a-ways (so those are closed for entering now) and I will try to get that posted tomorrow. Good luck everyone.

Day 19 of 29 Day Giving Challenge

Today I have something a bit different. I have a game for you.... handmade at that and well made too (but not by me). This was some blog candy that I won about a year ago (sorry that I can not remember which blog I won it from). The game is called No Say Dat! Keiki Edition The game is made by Local Kine Games and sells for $30.00 plus shipping and handling.

Local words for local kids a fun word game that can be played in many different ways.

You may not be from Hawaii but you might want to learn about Hawaii. I can see some one that home schools their children being able to put this to use as a learning tool, or maybe you have been to Hawaii, or planning a trip there. Or if you are the winner and don't want to play this game, then use it to jump start your own 29-Day Giving Challenge.

The game comes with instructions, 2 pencils, score pad, 3 minute sand timer, and 104 laminated word cards, and a handmade cloth storage bag.

from the Kine website:

An excellent way to develop VERBAL SKILLS, this version has words that relate to a kid's world in Hawaii. The same rules apply as the adult version, except with three Zzzz words instead of four. Best with four or more players, an excellent family night activity. The winners can choose to go for shave ice or chocolate and coconut ice cream afterwards.

Recommended for kids in 1st-7th grades. An excellent rainy day, camping, or mixed age activity.

Unfortunately I've never played the game as my Grandsons are growing up and have no interest in games at this time. So it is brand new.

If you would like to see a larger version of the picture, just click on it and it will appear.

genuine, genuine ....where - o - where are you?

I have a winner from my day 6 of the 29 - Day Giving Challenge and I have no way to contact her. I know it is a her... because her profile says so, and it also has the info that she lives in MN.
Burt no e-mail address or webpage. So if you know who this is, please let her know that she needs to contact me.... and soon or the prize will go to the next person in line.

Or if you are genuine and you are reading this, please send me an e-mail so that I can get your mailing address.

Gorgeous Swap

I love to join in various swap. And last month... I know I'm a bit behind in posting this..... but bear with me..... I joined in a Valentine ATC swap that was hosted by Takeabreak from the Flickr group Altered Dominos & Other Altered Game Pieces. Unfortunately I did not get pictures of the ATC that I made before sending them out to my partner. It was for one ATC, but my partner, pattiein_uk, sent me these two ATCs and I love them. First because they are both purple (my fav color) and secondaly because the first one is from a movie that I want to see - Mamma Mia, and the second becuase she has a dangle from the mini domino and it's absolutely beautiful. I may jsut have to join Netflix so that I can rent the movie that I want to see so much. Conner would love it if I joined. He watched much more TV than I do.

The ladies over at Altered Dominos make some gorgeous artwork. If you need some inspiration, or jsut have time to kill you really should take a look.

Sunday Laundry Shirt Dress GIVEAWAY!!!!

Check this out.

It's an adorable shirt dress give-a-way! And I want it! I can see spending a lazy summer day in that dressing reaming the flea markets, or having a picnic lunch in a park, or for a romantic boat ride. Hurry though, you only have one week to enter this give-a-way by Grosgrain.

Sunday Laundry Shirt Dress GIVEAWAY!!!!

Green Thumb????

My loving Mother always said that I had a green thumb. Every time she came over, she would always mention how pretty my house plants were. They sure don't look green to me. But I did have a green finger for St. Patty's Day last year when I went into the hospital on St. Patty's Day to have my hip replaced. I'm Irish, so I had had to have some green on somewhere. But never a green thumb.

I received this poinsettia from the other co-Grandmother to my two Grandsons for Christmas. Can you believe it is still going strong? She said hers dies after about 2 weeks. And the ones that my Sister had for Christmas also have long since died. I've had this one since about the middle of December 2008.

Leaves keep dying and falling off, but others keep sprouting and growing. I wonder how long poinsettias actually live. Any one know?

Day 18 of 29 - Day Giving Challenge

Looks like the zines I had before for the give-a-way, were somewhat popular. So today I have another one. This time it is just the one though. But well worth it just being one. It's a Gleaner Zine ish #9. I saw on-line that it was valued at $16.00 even though it is an older issue, it is an excellent issue. It is about vintage photography. From what I can tell all the added bits and pieces are still attached. I originally bought this on eBay, and have read it several times. And now it's time to find a new home for the zine.

So if interested in owning this wonderful zine, leave a comment on this post and you will be entered to win. Good Luck!

Today's is Spring themed!

Someone left a comment that they could use a key chain, well lucky you.... I have another one for you folks today. This one is a ladybug theme...and pretty fitting since Spring is nearly here. The beads are all glass and it has a bit of weight but such a fun one.
